Dubai Airport Car Rental Guide for Tourists

Dubai Airport Car Rental Guide for Tourists

Landing at Dubai Airport and collecting your rental car should be simple. The problems usually begin when important details, such as the terminal, required documents, mileage limit or security deposit, were not confirmed before the flight.

This Airport car rental Dubai guide explains how tourists can arrange a car at Dubai International Airport (DXB) or Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC). It covers airport delivery, accepted licences, tourist documents, deposits, mileage, Salik tolls and choosing a suitable car for the length of your trip.

Faster Rent a Car offers free airport delivery to both DXB and DWC, with the vehicle handed over at the confirmed terminal. A minimum rental period of one day applies.

How Does Airport Car Rental in Dubai Work?

There are two common ways to rent a car after landing in Dubai.

The first is collecting a vehicle from a rental counter inside or near the airport. Dubai Airports lists car-hire providers across Terminals 1, 2 and 3 at DXB, although the available companies and counter locations differ by terminal.

The second option is pre-arranged airport delivery. Instead of searching for a rental counter after your flight, you book the vehicle before travelling and provide your arrival information. The rental company then coordinates the handover at your terminal.

With Faster Rent a Car, airport delivery can be arranged at:

  • Dubai International Airport, DXB
  • Al Maktoum International Airport, DWC
  • Your hotel
  • Your home, office or another confirmed location in Dubai

Airport delivery is free, but the airport, terminal, flight information and handover time must be confirmed before arrival.

Airport Delivery or Hotel Delivery?

Airport delivery is useful when you want to begin driving as soon as you arrive. However, hotel delivery may be more convenient after a long flight, especially if you have many suitcases, young children or an arrival late at night.

What Information Should You Send Before Flying?

An airport booking requires more information than a regular city delivery. Send the following details to the Faster Rent a Car reservation team:

  • Arrival airport, DXB or DWC
  • Terminal number
  • Airline and flight number
  • Scheduled arrival date and time
  • Rental start and return time
  • Full name and contact number
  • A WhatsApp number that will work in Dubai
  • Number of passengers
  • Number and approximate size of suitcases
  • Preferred car or vehicle category
  • Copies of the required rental documents

Providing the passenger and luggage numbers helps the team recommend a suitable vehicle. A five-seat car may legally carry five people, but it might not have enough boot space for five large suitcases.

What Documents Do Tourists Need to Rent a Car in Dubai?

The document checklist published across the Faster website includes:

  • A valid passport
  • A valid Dubai or UAE visit visa
  • UAE airport entry stamp, when requested
  • A valid home-country driving licence
  • An original International Driving Permit, when required

The exact licence requirement depends on your nationality, visa status and the country that issued your licence. Sending copies in advance can help with preliminary verification, but tourists should carry their original documents when receiving the car.

Faster’s website also states that tourists from the GCC, United Kingdom, United States, Canada, European countries and certain other approved countries may be exempt from presenting an IDP.

However, visitors should not rely on a general country grouping alone. Confirm your current eligibility against official RTA rules before travelling.

Is Your Foreign Driving Licence Accepted in Dubai?

Faster Rent a Car follows official UAE and Dubai Roads and Transport Authority regulations. It does not maintain a separate proprietary list that overrides the official rules.

Current RTA guidance allows eligible visitors on short-term or visit visas to drive light vehicles using licences issued by GCC countries or recognised exception countries. Visitors using a foreign-issued International Driving Permit may also drive under the applicable RTA conditions.

Use this simple process before booking:

  • Check that your home-country driving licence is valid and has not expired.
  • Check whether the issuing country is recognised for visitors under current RTA rules.
  • If your home licence is not accepted on its own, obtain an original IDP before travelling.
  • Carry the original IDP together with your original home-country licence.
  • Send your documents to Faster before arrival for rental eligibility verification.

An IDP does not replace your original licence. If it is required, carry both documents.

What Should You Know About the Security Deposit?

An advance security deposit is required, but the amount may depend on the vehicle, category and rental agreement. Confirm the amount before choosing a car, especially when renting a sports car, luxury vehicle or large SUV.

The Faster FAQ states that rental fees and advance deposits may be paid through several methods, including bank transfer and credit or debit card. Other methods may be available after confirmation.

Before completing your Airport car rental Dubai booking, request written confirmation of:

  • The deposit amount
  • The accepted payment method
  • Whether the amount is charged or temporarily blocked
  • The expected release or refund period
  • What may be deducted from it
  • How Salik, parking charges and traffic fines are reconciled
  • What proof will be provided for any deductions

The public FAQ does not state one universal deposit amount or release period. These details should therefore appear in your quotation or rental agreement.

Insurance and Vehicle Condition

Insurance coverage is included in Faster rentals, according to the company FAQ. However, included insurance does not mean that every type of damage or every situation has zero customer liability.

Your rental agreement should explain:

  • Who is authorised to operate the car
  • The insurance excess
  • What happens if the renter is responsible for an accident
  • Situations excluded from insurance
  • The procedure for reporting damage or an accident

A police report is required for an accident-related insurance claim. Contact Faster immediately if an accident, breakdown or mechanical problem occurs. Do not arrange repairs yourself without company approval.

Inspect the Car at the Terminal

Before leaving the airport:

  • Compare the vehicle with the rental agreement.
  • Photograph the front, rear and both sides.
  • Record the wheels, windscreen and visible marks.
  • Photograph the odometer and fuel level.
  • Check the air conditioning and basic controls.
  • Make sure all existing damage appears on the checkout report.
  • Save the rental agreement and emergency contact details.

Repeat the inspection when returning the vehicle. This gives both the renter and rental company a clear condition record.

How Does Salik Work on a Dubai Rental Car?

Salik is Dubai’s barrier-free electronic road toll system. A vehicle passes through a toll gate without stopping, and the installed tag is detected automatically.

Dubai uses variable Salik pricing. Under the current standard schedule outside Ramadan, weekday crossings cost AED 6 during peak hours, AED 4 during off-peak hours and AED 0 during the defined late-night period. Sunday crossings are generally AED 4 during chargeable hours, subject to public-holiday and event rules.

Faster rental cars already have Salik tags. Crossings made during the rental are recorded and added to the customer’s invoice. Faster Rent a Car applies an AED 1 administration fee per crossing in addition to the applicable base toll.

Since the base toll can change according to the day and time, ask for the itemised crossing record when the rental is settled.

How Much Mileage Is Included?

Faster provides a mileage allowance of 250 kilometres per day. The FAQ states that additional kilometres are chargeable when this allowance is exceeded.

Excess-kilometre charges vary by vehicle category, model and rental agreement. Ask for the exact rate before booking if your itinerary includes trips outside central Dubai.

Estimate Your Mileage Before Choosing a Package

Do not calculate only the distance between the airport and your hotel. Include:

  • Daily travel between the hotel and attractions
  • Shopping and restaurant journeys
  • Return trips to the airport
  • Travel to Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or another emirate
  • Unplanned detours
  • Extra journeys made by an authorised additional operator

For example, a tourist staying mainly around Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina and Jumeirah may need a different allowance from a family planning day trips to Abu Dhabi and other emirates.

Faster allows rental cars to be used across the UAE when the company is notified, but the daily mileage limit still applies. Driving outside the UAE is not permitted under the published rental terms unless a separate authorised arrangement explicitly allows it.

Should You Choose Daily or Weekly Car Rental?

The correct package depends on the actual rental period and itinerary.

Trip lengthPackage to considerWhy
One or two daysDaily car rental in DubaiSuitable for a short stop or focused itinerary
Three to five daysCompare daily and weekly totalsA longer package may offer better overall value
Six or seven daysWeekly car rental in DubaiDesigned for tourists spending a full week in the UAE
Longer stayWeekly or monthly packageBetter suited to extended use and repeated journeys

Do not compare the headline price alone. Check the included mileage, deposit, excess-kilometre rate, vehicle category and any time-related return conditions.

One rental day is calculated as 24 hours. Return the car at the agreed time because extra time may result in another rental day under the applicable agreement.

Which Vehicle Is Best for Your Dubai Trip?

The lowest-priced car is not always the right airport vehicle. Passenger space, luggage capacity, parking and the total driving distance matter.

Economy Cars for City Travel

An economy car rental in Dubai works well for one or two travellers with light luggage. Economy cars are practical for city driving and easier to park in busy hotel, mall and attraction car parks.

  • Consider an economy car when:
  • Most journeys will be inside Dubai
  • You have one or two medium suitcases
  • You want a practical daily or weekly rental
  • Passenger and luggage requirements are limited

Family SUVs for Passengers and Luggage

A family SUV rental in Dubai is usually more suitable for parents travelling with children, groups carrying several suitcases or visitors planning longer journeys.

An SUV can provide additional passenger room, easier access and more flexible luggage space. However, check the actual seating layout before booking. A seven-seat SUV may not hold seven passengers and seven large airport suitcases at the same time.

Sedans and Compact SUVs

A sedan or compact SUV can be a good middle choice for two to four travellers. It usually provides more luggage flexibility than a small economy car without the size of a full-size family SUV.

Luxury and Sports Cars

A luxury car rental or sports car rental can suit a short leisure trip, but boot space and passenger capacity must be considered carefully. If you are arriving with large suitcases, ask whether the luggage will fit before confirming the vehicle.

What If Your Flight Is Delayed?

If your arrival time changes, call the Faster Rent a Car reservation desk immediately. Provide:

  • Your reservation number
  • Flight number
  • Original arrival time
  • New estimated arrival time
  • Arrival terminal
  • Working contact number

Early notification allows the terminal handover to be rearranged and helps prevent the reservation from being treated as a no-show.

Do not wait until landing to report a known delay. Flight schedules and terminals can change, so keep the reservation team updated.

Returning the Car at the Airport or Hotel

Faster provides flexible collection options. The car can be collected from an agreed airport, hotel or other confirmed Dubai location.

Before the return:

  • Confirm the exact collection point and time.
  • Allow enough time for traffic and airport access.
  • Follow the agreed fuel-return policy.
  • Remove personal belongings.
  • Photograph the vehicle, fuel level and odometer.
  • Ask for acknowledgement that the vehicle was returned.
  • Confirm how remaining Salik, parking or traffic charges will be handled.

Parking charges incurred at the specified collection location may remain the customer’s responsibility under the Faster FAQ.

Dubai Airport Rental Checklist

Before your flight, confirm that:

  • DXB or DWC has been selected correctly.
  • The terminal and meeting point are confirmed.
  • Faster has your flight details.
  • Your home-country licence is accepted.
  • You have an original IDP if required.
  • Your passport and visit documents are ready.
  • The deposit terms are provided in writing.
  • The insurance and excess are explained.
  • The 250-kilometre daily allowance suits your trip.
  • The excess-kilometre rate is confirmed.
  • Salik and its AED 1 administration fee are understood.
  • The vehicle has enough passenger and luggage capacity.
  • Your return location and time are confirmed.

With the documents, terminal and rental terms arranged before travelling, collecting your vehicle becomes a straightforward part of your arrival.
